October Goal Updates and New Hopes for November

November 3, 2008

I started October by foolishly posting my goals for last month for the whole world to see. Let’s see how I did:

Financial Goals

  • Pay down at least $2,000 on my student debt. - SUCCESS! $2,350, to be precise.
  • Research and purchase shares in at least one BRIC company. - FAIL! In this market, I’m researching what mattress is best to stuff with cash.
  • Finally get my Questrade Self-Directed RRSP up and running. SUCCESS! And I even wrote a post about it!

Blog Goals

  • Participate in at least one blogging event per week. FAIL! Not even close.
  • Increase average readership by 25%. SUCCESS! Average daily visits was up by 38%, subscriptions by 34%.
  • Write a guest post for another blog. FAIL! I’ve got a draft in place, but haven’t done anything further.
  • Launch the new design I’ve been working on for MGL. FAIL! But it should be launched soon… really!

Personal Goals

  • Finally sign up for guitar lessons. FAIL! I’m the world’s best procrastinator.
  • Read A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry- it’s been sitting on my bedside table for way too long. FAIL! Moved from my bedside table to bookshelf.
  • Host a theme dinner party- I’m thinking a Diwali party to try out my favourite curry recipe on a larger group. SUCCESS! A good time was had by all, and my house still smells like an Indian restaurant.
  • Go moose hunting with my father and uncle- my grandfather is currently quite ill, and it’s making me wish I had spent more time doing those type things with him when he was well. FAIL! Our trip has been postponed until late November.

The result? I accomplished 4/11 goals, or a success rate of 36%. Boo-urns. Feel free to berate me and mock my failure. It’ll be just like Grade 8 all over again.

So let’s try this again. Here are 10 things I’m going to accomplish in November. Goals from October are listed in italics.

  1. Purchase a new term life insurance policy.
  2. Sign up for guitar lessons.
  3. Lay tile flooring in my front porch (or foyer, for you fancy folks).
  4. Complete 50% of my Christmas shopping.
  5. Increase average blog readership by an additional 25%.
  6. Take that moose hunting trip.
  7. Adjust my investment portfolio allocations based on recent market changes.
  8. Write a guest post for another blog.
  9. Cook something with quinoa in it.
  10. Take a walk in the park at least once a week.

Wish me luck!

There’s a certain dude looking for guest posts this week for when he’s away if you want to knock off another goal :)

Seems like you had pretty good success to me!

About guest posts - most bloggers are ok if you repost on your own blog later on (ie 2-3 months later) so the net amount of work is not that much.

I’d suggest doing one on my blog but a post on something like MDJ would probably be more successful.
