The Things I’m Thankful For…

October 13, 2008

Today is the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday, so I’m spending my day building a deck and cooking a leg of lamb. That’s about as close to heaven as I can get. Don’t worry, though, I haven’t neglected about my blogging duties. In celebration of Thanksgiving, here’s my list of 10 things for which I am truly thankful:

  1. The greatest wife in the universe.
  2. Parents who support even my dumbest decisions, like deciding to major in Russian during university.
  3. Living in a great country where I can go about my daily business without fear or persecution, even if the taxes are too high and the government tries to impinge on my personal freedoms with stupid and oppressive seatbelt and helmet laws.
  4. Friends who tolerate my eccentricities (and sometimes even encourage them) and make me feel infinitely cooler than I actually am.
  5. A nice home in a nice neighborhood with a nice, small mortgage.
  6. A good job that I find enjoyable and intellectually stimulating.
  7. Never, ever having had to worry about having my basic needs met.
  8. Astonishingly good health, despite the fact that I eat like crap and consider Wii Fit to be exercise.
  9. Not having been killed on any of the occasions when it really was the most logical outcome, like ditching my bike at high speeds, or getting knocked down by a car (twice!), or getting lippy with armed Vietnamese border guards, or working with live wires and uninsulated pliers on a shaky ladder, or… shall I continue?
  10. For the readers who keep coming back to Money Grubbing Lawyer to read my inane rants, poor grammar, and feeble attempts at humour (and who tolerate my insistence on using the proper Canadian spelling of words like humour, colour, and labour).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Good for you for being able to count your blessings. It’s far too easy to focus on the frustrations of daily life and the things we don’t have, and in doing so we often forget just how good we’ve got it.

Happy Thanksgiving MGL but did you really major in Russian? If you had been my child, I would not have kept my mouth shut on that one.

Yes, I did indeed major in Russian. Well, technically it was a double major in Russian and Poli Sci. I’m sure you can imagine just how employable that degree made me…

re: 1- yes, you’re a lucky, lucky man… I think she likes you, too, though :)

2- Hey, you got a good job in the end…

3- after reading #9, I’d think you’d be grateful for a government that’s trying to keep your skull un-cracked!

4 &10- you have friends and readers for many good reasons, and I’m sure they’re all thankful for you, too.

8- whadda ya mean, Wii fit isn’t exercise? That’s why I want a Wii… damn.
