If the Party Leaders Were Simpsons Characters…

October 2, 2008

As I was watching the Canadian Party Leaders’ French Debate last night, I couldn’t help but think that it would have been a whole lot more entertaining if the translations had been voiced by the leaders’ obvious doppelgangers from The Simpsons. Here are my choices:

Stephen Harper- stiff, slightly awkward, and intolerant of dissent, Harper is the C. Montgomery Burns of the Canadian political world. While not afraid to stand up to the little guy and quite willing to renege on a promise when he has one of his characteristic changes of heart, at times there are well planned and choreographed shows of almost human-like affection. “I feel like such a free spirit, and I’m really enjoying this so-called…iced cream.”

Stephane Dion - Our Liberal leader is none other than the beloved Professor John Frink, Springfield’s nerdiest (yet possibly smartest) man. He may have some excellent and well-considered ideas, but his intellectualism and struggles with the English language make him inaccessible to many average voters. “It’s all about the hoyvin-glavin Green Shift!”

Jack Layton - Good ol’ Jack, always there with his sleeves rolled up, begging for a chance to get to work for the working family- just like Springfield’s favourite loser, Gil Gunderson. “C’mon, give ol’ Jackie a try! I’ll give you child care! Oh, I was soo close…”

Gilles Duceppe - Much like Bumblebee Man, this bumbling crusader for the Quebecois nation is neither understood nor cared for by those outside his domain, whether that’s Quebec City or channel ocho. “¡Ay, ay, ay, no me gusta federalism!”

Elizabeth May - Parading about in the background largely unnoticed by most, the leader of the Greens echoes of Helen Lovejoy. “Won’t somebody please think of the children / environment?!?”

Discuss.

lol… spot on. Jack Layton as Gil- perfect!

What about Seymour Skinner for Harper? He’s got that stiff thing going on.

Sorry, Elizabeth May HAS to be Lisa Simpson! They’re indistinguishable!

I agree, Lisa as Ms. May…. Helen is more of a Sarah Palin!

After last night’s debate, I fully agree that Elizabeth May is Lisa!
