Mid-Week Round-Up

August 13, 2008

Welcome to MoneyGrubbingLawyer. If this is your first time here, you may want to get started by learning a little bit more about me and about this site. If you like what you see, you can subscribe to receive updates by email or in a reader. Thanks for visiting!

Here’s what I’ve been reading this week:

Over at Million Dollar Journey, Frugal Trader has sparked a bit of a debate with his post about why cash-back mortgages are a bad idea. The discussion has also spilled over to another site, with GatesVP posting his response to some of the comments left.

Clever Dude impressed everyone when he drove 200 miles and kept to the speed limit the whole way. In a follow-up post, he explains how his distorted perceptions led to his lead foot. His story could easily be my own…

For those following the US housing market crunch, Simple Debt-Free Finance points to the story of Casey Serin, a would be house flipper who found himself flipped upside down.

SquawkFox has developed a neat little calculator to help you determine if it’s cost effective to trade your current car for a more fuel efficient model. My result? It would be cost-effective to trade the good ol’ Legacy for a shiny new Prius… after 24 years :).

Finally, something a little more profound to end with - Frugal Dad has a thoughtful post about simplifying your life. My Buddhist monk readers will approve.
